Robert Rauschenberg is revered as one of the most innovative American pop artists - more sculptural and avant-garde than Warhol, more audacious than Jasper Johns.

In addition to his admirable artistic practice, Rauschenberg has been a dedicated environmentalist - decades before it became fashionable. Many of his works reference man's destructive relationship to the earth - whether overtly by using text or newspaper clippings or his use of discarded materials.

In 1991 Rauschenberg was involved with the UN's first Earth Summit Committee held in Rio and attended by 600 world leaders and environmentalists. 

In conjunction with the conference the artist created the painting "Last Turn - Your Turn" which became emblem for the event. The painting was also the inspiration for this bold and inspiring offset-lithograph.

This is a fantastic representation of Rauschenberg's message for the importance of environmental action - which is still salient some 25 years after its creation.
